New Mexico has opened the doors to more voters
For the first time, Independent and Decline-to-State (DTS) voters can participate in primary elections without changing their registration.
The Big Change
Since the founding of New Mexico, voters who didn't want to join a political party were left out. In 2025, a bipartisan coalition passed Senate Bill 16, ensuring that the primary elections you pay for with your tax dollars are elections you can actually vote in.
